M11 northbound and southbound between junctions 7

(Hastingwood Interchange) and 10 (Duxford Interchange) – resurfacing

 We’re continuing emergency resurfacing on the M11. The next section to be resurfaced is on the M11 in both directions between junctions 7 and 10. The road surface has become worn and damaged in several areas, with cracks, grooves, and loose material appearing across the lanes. This work will include resurfacing, refresh road markings, and replacing worn-out studs, also known as cat’s eyes.

We plan to complete this work over seven nights from Wednesday 3 June 2026 (tonight). We will work overnight between 9pm and 5am on weeknights only, weather permitting.

We’re sorry for the short notice. We had some operational challenges, but we can now continue this emergency resurfacing work. Completing it now will help us improve the road surface and make journeys safer and smoother for road users.

This work is part of a bigger project on the M11 to carry out essential resurfacing. We’ll share details of any future closures and diversions as soon as they’re confirmed.

Closures and diversions

To carry out this work safely, we will need to close the M11 in both directions between junctions 7 and 10 and divert traffic as detailed below:

Northbound M11 traffic should:

·       Exit at junction 7 (Harlow)

·       Follow the A414, A1184 and A120

·       Rejoin the M11 at junction 8 (Birchanger

M11 northbound junctions 8 to 10

Monday 8 June and Tuesday 9 June 2026, 9pm to 5am (two nights)

M11 northbound traffic should:

·       Follow the A120 westbound

  • Continue on the A10 northbound
  • Take the A505 eastbound
  • Rejoin the M11 at junction 10

M11 southbound junctions 10 to 8

Wednesday 10 June to Friday 12 June 2026, 9pm to 5am (three nights)

M11 southbound traffic should:

·       Leave the M11 at junction 10 follow the A505

·       Continue on the A10

·       Take the A120

·       Rejoin the M11 at junction 8
