M11 northbound between junctions 11 and 12 – resurfacing

I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out resurfacing on the M11 northbound between junctions 11 and 12. This will ensure the M11 continues to remain in a safe and serviceable condition.

We plan to complete this work overnight on Saturday 14 February 2026. We will work between 9pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the M11 between junctions 11 and 12, and divert traffic as follows:

  • Traffic will be diverted off the M11 at junction 11 and follow the A10 towards Royston, the A505, then the A1198, and A603 before rejoining the M11 at junction 12.

Please note there will be no access for emergency vehicles through the works.

M11 junction 8 and 9a – Resurfacing

I’m writing to tell you that we plan to carry out emergency resurfacing work on the M11 between junction 8 and 9a. The road surface has become worn and damaged in several areas, with cracks, grooves, and loose material appearing across the lanes. This work will include resurfacing, refresh road markings, and replacing worn-out studs.

Since this part of the carriageway is very busy, it is important we fix these issues as soon as possible to reduce the risk of incidents or damage to vehicles. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer, smoother and better-defined road surface.

We plan to complete this work over approximately four weeks starting on Tuesday 10 February 2026. We’ll work between 9pm and 5am, Monday to Saturday, weather permitting. There will be no construction work on Sundays.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we’ll need to close the M11 in both directions from junction 8 and 9a with diverted traffic as detailed in the below table:

We’re planning to remove dead and unsafe trees and carry out grassland improvement works on the M11 verges between junction 9 and 9a. A map of the works location can be found below. Once complete, it will improve the safety of road users and improve the surrounding environment.

We plan to complete this work over 8 weeks starting on Monday 2 February to Friday 27 March 2026. Work will be carried out on weeknights onlybetween 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.

As our work moves along the route, lane one and hard shoulder closures will be in place on the M11 between junctions 9 and 9a. No diversion will be needed. We are working alongside the resurfacing scheme at the same time where possible.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation while these works are carried out. Our teams will make every effort to complete the works efficiently and with minimal inconvenience.
