Dear Residents,

Ref – Proposed Bailey Bridge repair works and associated road closure – Imperial War Museum Duxford.

I hope that you are keeping well during these challenging times.

Imperial War Museums (IWM) is carrying out some necessary infrastructure works at IWM Duxford over the coming months, to preserve our historic buildings and collections and to ensure the safety and stability of all structures on our site.

As part of this programme, we will need to conduct essential repairs to the Bailey Bridge structure passing over the A505 between the north and south IWM Duxford sites. Undertaking these works requires a temporary closure of the A505, localised to approximately 30m on both the east and west sides of the bridge. Accordingly, IWM has applied to Cambridgeshire Council for the necessary permits.

Subject to obtaining the necessary consents, the proposed closure dates and times for this stretch of the A505 are set out below:

From Saturday 17th October 0600 hours until Sunday 18th October 2000 hours

From Saturday 24th October 0600 hours until Sunday 25th October 2000 hours

The work is weather dependant, but it is hoped all the work can be undertaken on the first closure weekend. (The second weekend is a reserve date in case the work cannot be completed on the first weekend).

At no time will access to your property be prevented. However, depending on the location of your property and your direction of travel on the A505, your route may be subject to diversion.

We do apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support for IWM Duxford – it is much appreciated. I hope to welcome you onsite in the near future.

Yours sincerely

John Brown
