Dear People of Whittlesford

Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to Marie Swann for inviting me to make a contribution to the Whittlesford Village Web Site on behalf of WCC.

I have been asked for a brief history of the Club and I can certainly be very brief on that. Cricket has been played in the village since c1870 and the original club was formed under the name of Whittlesford United Villagers’ Cricket Club. Here ends my lesson on the history of the Club. In truth, the Cricket Club has a wide and lengthy past and there is a great deal of history attached to it in the form of documents, photographs, scorecards and associated cricket memorabilia; however, the oracle of such history, our esteemed and respected president, Steve Wilson, is unable to provide me with any of it at the moment due to him being away but I am confident that, in due course, we will populate our part of the site with some of this detail. In the meantime, I can tell you about the structure of the Club, its ambitions and its commitment to provide competitive and friendly cricket to anyone who wishes to take part, both from within Whittlesford itself and the surrounding areas.

In summary, WCC represents what is best in cricket and our commitment is to continue to develop the Club and expand its reach so that the opportunity to play or participate is there for anyone who requires it. We are fortunate enough to enjoy outstanding facilities, a full calendar of matches and the help and support of both our players and families and the Parish Council. I cannot over emphasise how welcome any new players would be to come and join us and I hope that I get the opportunity to meet many new players.
