M11 Junctions 9 to 10: maintenance works


I write to inform you that we will be carrying out essential maintenance works between the above locations, in both directions. These works will include the renewal of road markings and studs.

We plan to complete this work over one week from Thursday 1 October to Friday 9 October, working between the hours of 8pm to 6am, subject to weather conditions.

Diversion routes

These works will be carried out in two phases as set out below:

Phase 1 – Junction 9 to 10 northbound – 1 October to 6 October 2020

Traffic will be diverted off at the M11 junction 9 to 9a Stump Cross Interchange (A11) to then follow A1301, left A505 and return to the M11 at junction 10.

Phase 2 – Junction 10 to 9 southbound – 6 October to 9 October 2020

Traffic will be diverted off the M11 at J10 to then follow the A505, south to A1301, J9A Stump Cross Interchange (A11) to return to the M11 southbound at junction 9.



Please be assured all our sites have strict safeguarding measures to prevent the spread of COVID19 and none of our sites are open to the public. We will be carrying out all works following safety guidelines set by the Government.

Ref – Proposed Bailey Bridge repair works and associated road closure – Imperial War Museum Duxford.

I hope that you are keeping well during these challenging times.

Imperial War Museums (IWM) is carrying out some necessary infrastructure works at IWM Duxford over the coming months, to preserve our historic buildings and collections and to ensure the safety and stability of all structures on our site.

As part of this programme, we will need to conduct essential repairs to the Bailey Bridge structure passing over the A505 between the north and south IWM Duxford sites. Undertaking these works requires a temporary closure of the A505, localised to approximately 30m on both the east and west sides of the bridge. Accordingly, IWM has applied to Cambridgeshire Council for the necessary permits.

Subject to obtaining the necessary consents, the proposed closure dates and times for this stretch of the A505 are set out below:


From Saturday 17th October 0600 hours until Sunday 18th October 2000 hours

From Saturday 24th October 0600 hours until Sunday 25th October 2000 hours


The work is weather dependant, but it is hoped all the work can be undertaken on the first closure weekend. (The second weekend is a reserve date in case the work cannot be completed on the first weekend).


At no time will access to your property be prevented. However, depending on the location of your property and your direction of travel on the A505, your route may be subject to diversion.
